Maize Trust Bursary South Africa 2019


ABOUT THE COMPANY – MAIZE TRUST

The Maize Trust, established in 1998, was formed after the Maize Board closure, with the main aim of promoting the maize industry of South Africa.
The Trust provides the maize industry with financial support, to organisations and institutions who conduct production and market related research programmes.
The Trust also provides funding assimilation and circulation of market information, as well as to increase market access for the maize industry’s benefit.
 

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Maize Trust will be awarding bursaries within fields related to the Agricultural sector and to the South African maize industry. Bursaries will be awarded specifically within the following fields of study (Masters and Doctoral studies only):
  • Agricultural Economics
  • Agricultural Meteorology
  • Agricultural Engineering
  • Agronomy
  • Plant Breeding
  • Plant Physiology
  • Plant Biochemistry
  • Plant Pathology
  • Plant Entomology
  • Plant Nematology
  • Pasture Science
  • Food Sciences (relevant to the crop industry)
  • Livestock Science
  • Weed Science
  • Soil Science
  • Soil Microbiology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Biometry

MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SERVICE CONTRACT

Bursaries will be awarded to the value of R78 334 per annum for MSc students (for 2 years) and R94 817 per annum for PhD students (for 3 years). Bursary funding must be used to offset the cost of tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, living expenses and other study materials.
Once students have graduated, they must work within the maize industry of South Africa, for a duration of time equal to that of the bursary received.
 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying full time within one of the aforementioned fields of study (MSc or PhD only)
  • Studying at a recognised University in South Africa
  • Intend on conducting a thesis on a topic that has been approved by the Maize Trust
  • Willing to work within the South African maize industry after completing your studies
  • Have read and agreed to all terms of the Maize Trust Bursary Scheme Agreement (.pdf)
